Dave's Salvation in Jesus Christ
Thus, for my part, I am eager to preach the gospel to you ... For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ, for it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes, to the Jew first and also to the Greek.

How Jesus changed my Life

Of all the pages that make up this web site, this is the most important. The others tell of me and my interests — this page is dedicated to my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. I make no apology in declaring that I have placed my faith in Jesus Christ and am now born-again.

There were some kids in my junior high school who used to argue with me about God. As a Catholic I already knew that I was a sinner. (Romans 3:23 NASB) And I knew that the penalty for sin was death. (Romans 6:23 NASB) They told me that salvation was a free gift — that there was nothing I could do to earn it.

I couldn't believe that — doesn't God want to reward us for doing good? I though that since none of us are perfect, God must look at both the good and bad in our life and whichever side tips the scales determines whether we go to heaven or hell.

The nagging question of course was, "How much good versus how much bad?" I considered myself basically good not as bad as say, ... Hitler but not as good as say, ... Mother Theresa. My friends challenged me to come up with a way to measure goodness (or badness), and I could not. Then they explained something that was new to me God's standard is absolute complete goodness. That is the meaning of holiness.

But, I argued, "Who can meet that standard?"

They said, "Nobody!" Even our good deeds amount to nothing compared to God's holiness. (Isaiah 64:6) By His standards we would all be doomed. (Romans 3:9-11)

Well, if nobody is good enough to meet God's standard — how do you get saved? By not trying to save yourself, rather by reaching out to God so that he can reach down and save you. It is not our work but God's grace that brings us to salvation. (Ephesians 2:8-9)

I repented of my sin and accepted Jesus as my savior in December of 1975. Since then I have had both ups and downs in my life — but God has been faithful even when I have not. If you are searching for meaning in life — if you need peace — Jesus is the answer.

What the Bible says.

"... for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God ..."

Romans 3:23 NASB

This verse in the Book of Romans concludes a discussion of people who try to keep the law and those who don't. The conclusion is that neither way is good enough and no one is up to God's standard. There is no way to work your way into Heaven.

"For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord."

Romans 6:23 NASB

Paul uses this verse to conclude a contrast between sin and grace. As certainly as a worker deserves his wages a sinner deserves eternal death. We deserve death but God offers us the gift of eternal life.

"... And all our righteous deeds are like a filthy garment; ..."

Isaiah 64:6 NASB

Isaiah cries out to God in this passage declaring how wicked the people are. Even the good works they do are like soiled clothes — utterly distasteful to a Holy God.

"...both Jews and Greeks are all under sin; as it is written, 'THERE IS NONE RIGHTEOUS, NOT EVEN ONE; THERE IS NONE WHO UNDERSTANDS, THERE IS NONE WHO SEEKS FOR GOD;'"

Romans 3:9-11 NASB

Paul quotes Psalm 14, concluding that neither Jews nor Greeks (gentiles) are righteous.

"For by grace you have been saved through faith; and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God; not as a result of works, that no one should boast."

Ephesians 2:8-9 NASB

Salvation is a a gift from God. Even the faith comes from Him — so nobody can brag that they did it on their own.
