Under the Banner of Heaven: A Story of Violent Faith

by Jon Krakauer

Jon Krakauer wrote the controversial Into Thin Air about the disastrous 1996 climbing season on Everest. I have enjoyed reading Krakauer in Outside Magazine for years.

In this book Krakauer introduces the world of Mormon fundamentalism. Mormon fundamentalists believe that the LDS Church caved in to government demands in accepting a ban on polygamy. They see the current LDS Church as apostate and believe that only they are the true faithful.

This book is a revealing look at a culture most of us have never seen.
